Because Everybody Is Entitled To My Opinion

"O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, . . . in wrath remember mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2).
"Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" (Psalm 85:6)

These Are Few of My Least Favorite Things

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I did. And now that it is over I have a moment to unwind and reflect. I have been reflecting on some of the things I dislike about Christmas. Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas, and I always get excited about the birth of Christ and the hope his birth gave to us all. But there are some things, and trends, that seem to be threatening Christmas
  • The Non-Christmas Christmas Specials. More and more, television in its effort to cash in on Christmas will have a Christmas Special. They even call it a “Christmas Special”. But they emphasize the day and the joy and even miracles without ever mentioning Christ. “Why is everybody so full of love? Because it’s Christmas!” As if peace on Earth, good will towards men happens because it’s December 25th. No it happens because it’s when we acknowledge the birth of the Saviour, Immanuel, God with us. They portray the magic of Christmas as some form of generic goodness that somehow, without rhyme or reason, manifests itself December 25th. At least they never tell you the reason.
  • Generic Holiday Greetings. The Generic Holiday Greeting assumes that all holidays around Christmas are equally valid. By wishing you “Happy Holidays” they steal something from the significance of Christmas and apply it to your holiday of choice. Kwanzaa is not equally as valid as Christmas. For years I thought Kwanzaa was that brown animal thing from The Muppet Show.

  • Santa Proliferation. Jesus is out of the public schools but Santa is exalted. Mark at Cutting Edge of Ecstasy had this post Santa Claus Promoted By God-Denying Schools
Then there's Santa Claus. Usually, we get all in a lather when our education system lies to our children. Think of the recent ruling barring the teaching of 'Intelligent Design'. But in the case of a teacher in Richardson Texas who had the nerve to tell some first-graders that there is no Santa, Richardson school district spokesman felt it necessary to announce '"The teacher did hear from Santa Claus himself, who heard about the situation and let the teacher know that the spirit of the holidays is alive and well and to pass that message along to the students."'
Wow. Just how far have we gone away from God in this country? Personally I never promote Santa. We teach our own kids and Sunday School kids that Christmas is about Jesus not Santa. How do you convince a child when he gets older that Jesus is real when they have never seen him, after they’ve learned that Santa is a lie after you’ve promoted him and they have seen him every year? I don’t tell stranger’s kids that there is no Santa unless they ask me directly. I won’t lie to them especially at Christmas.

  • Non Christians Singing Christmas Carols. First I don’t mean if your company has an office party and everybody breaks out into “Silent Night” or “Joy to the World”. I am talking about people like Barbara Streisand who is obviously not Christian, and in fact has been critical of conservative Christians in her moonbat ravings. She will release an album of Christmas songs. Is it me or does it seem a little hypocritical to sing about the birth of the Saviour when you don’t actually believe he is the Saviour? And this goes for any performer who fully embraces the Hollywood humanistic/Deists philosophies and then cuts a Christmas Album. It’s not about Jesus, it’s about the Benjamins.

So there are my quickie observations about Christmas this year. These trends are getting worse. Unless we turn it around we will lose Christmas to the Anti-Christmas crowd.
