Dutch Following in Hitler's Footsteps

You may have remembered when I posted about the Dutch woman who wanted mandatory sterilization of blacks. I also posted about how the Dutch will be the first to legalize euthanasia for babies. Well their trend for murdering undesirables hasn’t gone unnoticed. In fact an Italian official has drawn disturbing parallels between the Dutch policies and similar policies enacted by Hitler during his administration. From Killing Babies, Compassionately;The Netherlands follows in Germany's footsteps.

At last, a high government official in Europe got up the nerve to chastise the Dutch government for preparing to legalize infant euthanasia. Italy's Parliamentary Affairs minister, Carlo Giovanardi, said during a radio debate: "Nazi legislation and Hitler's ideas are reemerging in Europe via Dutch euthanasia laws and the debate on how to kill ill children."
Unsurprisingly, the Dutch, ever prickly about international criticism of their peculiar institution, were outraged. Giovanardi's critique cut so deeply that even Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende felt the need to respond, sniffing,
"This [Giovanardi's assertion] is scandalous and unacceptable. This is not the way to get along in Europe."
As is often the case in the New Europe, what is said matters more than what is done. Thus, the prime minister of the Netherlands thinks that killing babies because they are born with terminal or seriously disabling conditions is not a scandal, but daring to point out accurately that German doctors did the same during World War II, is.(emphasis mine -DB)
Ah the magical world of PC. What German doctors did during WWII was deplorable but the same thing done by the Dutch today is OK because they really care about the babies. We can’t be allowed to draw comparisons between the two because that would link the liberal agenda to Nazism and everybody knows only Bush and conservatives are Nazis.

The Weekly Standard article points out that in Germany, doctors who performed the “treatment” of undesirable babies were not forced to do so. The actually felt they were doing a valuable service. But this service quickly got out of hand and evolved into the T-4 project where undesirable adults were murdered either by starvation or lethal injection. Often these people were killed without examination but just at the whim of the doctor.

I find it amazing that the Dutch think that they can avoid the slippery slope. It looks like history is about to repeat itself.

Some Retooling Is In Order

Some of you may have noticed that my blog is loading rather slowly.  I am investigating it right now. I wish I could blame Blogger but other Blogger blogs load pretty quick. I think the culprit may be in one of my many sidebar blogthingies. I have already removed the clock because McAfee kept identifying it as having a potential virus attached. I will replace it with a "clean" one eventually.  In the mean time bear with me. I will figure this out.

UCC Exodus Over Gay Marraige

DL Foster over at Perspectives in Motion talks about the UCC Exodus. The United Church of Christ is hemorrhaging members losing 97 congregations since sanctioning gay marriages last July.  The Christian Post points out that the liberal UCC has a history of supporting gay causes.

The first actively gay minister in the UCC was ordained in 1972, and by 1985 the church adopted an “open and affirming” position toward homosexuals. However, according to Thompson, less than 10 percent of the congregations adopted that policy.

Congregations are voting with their feet. Will the leadership listen or will they hold onto their support of homosexuality contrary to scripture?

Holland Wants Baby Euthanasia

The progressive utopia of Holland is at it again. This time they want to put down babies.

“We felt terrible watching her suffer,” said Anita at their home near Amsterdam.
“We felt we were letting her down.”

Frank and Anita began to believe
that their daughter would be better off dead. “She kept throwing up milk that
was fed through a tube in her nose,” said Anita. “She seemed to be saying,
‘Mummy, I don’t want to live any more. Let me go’.”

Eventually, doctorsagreed to help the baby die at seven months. The feeding was stopped. Chanou wasgiven morphine.

So these parents who somehow could interpret a baby’s suffering as a plea to be killed asked a doctor to starve it to death? They are Parents of the Year Award material for sure. But they were not alone.
Each year in Holland at least 15 seriously ill babies, most of them with severe spina bifida or chromosomal abnormalities, are helped to die by doctors acting with the parents’ consent. But only a fraction of those cases are reported to the authorities because of the doctors’ fears of being charged with murder.

Things are about to change, however, making it much easier for parents and doctors to end the suffering of an infant.

A committee set up toregulate the practice will begin operating in the next few weeks, effectivelymaking Holland, where adult euthanasia is legal, the first country in the worldto allow “baby euthanasia” as well.

From assistedsuicide.org
The only four places that today openly and legally, authorize active assistance in dying of patients, are:
  • Oregon (since l997, physician-assisted suicide only);

  • Switzerland (1941, physician and non-physician assisted suicide only);

  • Belgium (2002, permits 'euthanasia' but does not define the method;

  • Netherlands (voluntary euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide lawful since April 2002 but permitted by the courts since l984).

Two doctors must be involved in Oregon, Belgium, and the Netherlands, plus a psychologist if there are doubts about the patient's competency. But that is not stipulated in Switzerland, although at least one doctor usually is because the
right-to-die societies insist on medical certification of a hopeless or terminal condition before handing out the lethal drugs. The Netherlands permits voluntary euthanasia as well as physician-assisted suicide, while both Oregon and Switzerland bar death by injection. Dutch law enforcement will crack down on any non-physician assisted suicide they find, recently sentencing an old man to six months imprisonment for helping a sick, old woman to die.
So the Dutch have no qualms about passing laws to help you kill people but they take a dim view of people who assist suicides outside the law. Hmmm. Is it just me or does anyone else see a slippery slope where once you legalize killing babies after they are born All of a sudden your society just starts killing its undesirables? An unwanted baby would “suffer” from neglect so it would be “better off dead”. How about toddlers, tweens and teenagers who develop a disease later on or get paralyzed because of an accident? Surely these burdens to their progressive parents would rather be euthanised then live and suffer. They would be “better off dead” which would probably become the official battle cry of the right-to-die crowd.

Freedom to Petition the Government to Redress…Ummmm Donuts.

I think it is a sad thing that more people can name the Simpsons and the judges from American Idol than can name the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. This is sad for two reasons. The first is that it shows that our schools aren’t teaching our kids what is important. You might think that it could mean that people aren’t as interested in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as they are in popular culture and TV. To me it is the same thing. Failure to teach is more than the inability to get someone to memorize facts. It is an inability to convey to them WHY something is important.

This leads to my second reason. If people do not know what their freedoms are, anyone can lie about them. How many times have you heard that “Separation of Church and State” is in the constitution? It isn’t. But if you didn’t know better you would swear it was because the ACLU uses it to put a barrier between Christians and government. What amendment guarantees a woman’s right to an abortion? There is no such right nor language to such. But “penumbras from the emanations” of the Bill of Rights apparently exist which contains this mythical right.

So if people think more of knowing who Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are than they do knowing that the First Amendment of the Constitution guarantees Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom to Peaceably Assemble and Freedom to Petition the Government to Redress Grievances, then don’t let it surprise you one day to wake up and find your rights are gone. Every one of our First Amendment rights is under attack from the left. Every one of them.
