The Mormons really have a thing for dead people. They have been known to marry dead women and to posthumously baptize dead people. The latter practice has gotten them in Dutch with Jewish Holocaust survivors
Using genealogy records, the church also baptizes people who have died from all over the world and from different religions. Mormons stand in as proxies for the person being baptized and immerse themselves in a baptismal pool.
Only the Jews have an agreement with the church limiting who can be baptized, though the agreement covers only Holocaust victims, not all Jewish people. Jews are particularly offended by baptisms of Holocaust victims because they were murdered specifically because of their religion.
Michel suggested that posthumous baptisms of Holocaust victims play into the hands of Holocaust deniers.
I am a fundamental Baptist. Baptism is one of two ordinances Jesus commanded the church to follow. He instructed the Apostles who instructed their followers who instructed their followers all the way down to me, on who should be baptized, why they should be baptized and how they should be baptized. And guess what, He said nothing about baptizing dead people. So I have to side with the Jews on this one.

I'm a Mormon, or more correctly a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Perhaps you have not heard all the words of Christ. Perhaps He did have something to say about baptisms for the dead. Maybe you are just not fully informed. That's my thoughts, anyway.
I am not so infallible that I can't be wrong. But I do require proof. If you have a KJB chapter and verse I will definitely check it out.
Not everything Christ said was recorded in the KJB.
Sigh. Grew up in Utah. Not a Mormon. Wonder where Christ wrote it was ok to throw bricks at little girls just cause they are not your brand of religion.
Interesting post. Baptism for the dead is not unprecedented. While it is not documented in the gospels, Paul does teach the Corinthians that all will live again or else there would be no reason for baptism for the dead. They were doing baptisms for the dead already but did not understand why.
1 Corinthians 15:29 "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?"
