Because Everybody Is Entitled To My Opinion

"O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, . . . in wrath remember mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2).

13 Things About Dane Bramage
13 Things to Buy with My Incentive Check

Well the incentive checks are coming soon. I will have $300 just burning a hole in my pocket. Here is a list of 13 things I might get with my money.

  1. A Tank of Gas Well at least a half a tank, prices being what they are.

  2. New Shoes Once upon a time, 75 pounds ago I had normal feet and bought shoes at normal shoe stores. Now my off-the -rack feet have become especially wide! I now have to order special shoes at premium prices.

  3. Ink Cartridges for my Printer With $300 I might be able to get a complete set of 3 cartridges, or two new printers!

  4. One Night in a Luxury Hotel Suite You know, the one with the jacuzzi and stocked fridge. A can of Coke is usually $2.00. Man, that's living.

  5. 900 Text Messages I don't have unlimited texting on my cell plan. If my teenage nephew get's hold of my phone again this is about what I would wind up paying. (His folks took his phone because they discovered he texted all day in school instead of doing school work.)

  6. Dinner at a Fancy Restaurant If I can spend over $100 at an Outback, I am sure I could blow a wad at a really nice place. (Not that the Outback isn't nice. I love that place.)

  7. A Decent Priced Hooker Just kidding.

  8. Half a Dozen Skanky Hookers Truly more bang for your buck but again I kid.

  9. Road Trip Anywhere. I am ready to go now!

  10. A New Digital Camera The one I want is too expensive for my incentive check.

  11. A 50" Flat Panel Plasma TV Yeah right. Maybe if I got five to ten incentive checks.

  12. Home Repairs The deck needs stained and waterproofed. The Joy of home ownership.

  13. My Prescription Meds Even with my insurance plan, I spend a bunch of money getting my meds refilled. Normally I try to stagger the purchase but hey now I can get them all at once!

What are you going to do with your incentive check? Let us know in the comments.

He's Getting Senile

Fox News reports: Palestinians: Carter Achieved Nothing which is what everyone said would happen. Carter is now claiming that SOS Dr. Rice never told him NOT to go, coming short of saying she lied about her statement. Hmmm. Everyone said it was counter productive and would undermine the efforts in palestinian relations but there was no clear signal from the state department that he shouldn't do it? I think Jimmy needs to be put out to his peanut pasture. What part of "It's a bad idea all around" did he fail to grasp? How infantile do you have to be to believe that when everybody tells you something is wrong, you still get to make the judgement call based on your own thinking that everything will be all right?

Now the legitimate palestinian spokesman has labeled Carter's trip a failure, accomlishing nothing. What do you want to bet it doesn't sink in to James Earl's thick skull? Up there in CloudCooCooLand where he apparently resides he is just basking in the warmth of his success and greatness. He'll probably want another Nobel Peace Prize.

13 Things About Dane Bramage
13 Fun Facts About Earth Day

Tuesday was Earth Day. I conserved energy by sleeping in. They shut the lights off at work for an hour. I'm sure the energy saved cool the climate or caused a tree to sprout somewhere or something. I believe in not polluting the environment but I don't subscribe to the predictions of doom by the eco-prophets. And a lot of the so called science behind the claims of environmentalists leaves me leery. But in the spirit of the day I have put together this list of Fun Facts!

  1. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch a TV for three hours. T.V. is so crappy these days that I'd rather skip three hours and produce a new aluminum can.

  2. Recycling one aluminum can saves energy equivalent to half a gallon of gasoline. Which gets consumed hauling cans to the recycling center.

  3. if every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year. At the rate rags like WaPo and NYT are hemorrhaging readers, this goal is doable.

  4. Only 11% of the earth's surface is used to grow food. 75% of the earth's surface is used to grow fish.

  5. The patron Saint of ecologists is St. Francis He believed in conserving water by not bathing or washing his clothes. He was also the patron saint of body odor.

  6. More than 20,000,000 Hershey's Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil. All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it. It's hard for me to find those teeny tiny recycle bins. But just think of all the protective headgear moonbats could craft from all that tinfoil.

  7. The world's first national park was started in 1872 at Yellowstone National Park in the US. The first can of beer went on sale in Richmond, VA, January 24th, 1935. The first six pack of empties was found in Yellowstone on January 25th.

  8. April 22 is the first official day of Spring in the Northern hemisphere and of Fall in the Southern hemisphere and was chosen to be Earth Day for this reason. Which is confusing to all of us who still view the vernal equinox in March as the first day of spring.

  9. Every ton of recycled steel saves 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,000 of coal, and 40 pounds of limestone So recycle instead of burying old steel in the ground where the ore, coal and limestone are.

  10. A modern glass bottle would take 4000 years or more to decompose -- and even longer if it's in the landfill. This has sparked the ecology friendly practice of breaking glass bottles in the streets where they decompose faster.

  11. One-third of the water used in most homes is flushed down the toilet. The earth friendly practice of not flushing not only saves water but reduces the build up of household guests with its odor.

  12. The Washington, DC-based Institute For Local Self-Reliance calculates that recycling creates 36 jobs per 10,000 tons of material recycled compared to 6 jobs for every 10,000 of tons brought to traditional disposal facilities Which is great because 10,000 tons of recycled materials put 50 lumberjacks, miners and factory laborers out of work.

  13. The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year! Rain forests are being cut down at the rate of 100 acres per minute!Every week about 20 species of plants and animals become extinct! At this rate there will be no trees by next Tuesday at 11:33AM. But that's okay because all species of life will be extinct by then.

I am sure I will get it from the eco-purists out there, but I was just having fun. But when you think about it, can the earth's eco system be so delicate that it will careen out of kilter over a few tons of man-made trash, when for centuries, mother earth herself has belched contaminants into her atmosphere in quantities that makes man's contribution look like a soda spill? Wildfires and volcanoes chuck more "green house gases" into the air than all the cars combined. So why are we sweating?

So Why Is He Meeting With Terrorists Again?

Carter-Hamas Meeting Comes on 25th Anniversary of Deadly Terror Attack
So Governor Carter is at it again. (If you're a liberal and just took offense at me referring to James Earl as Governor, instead of Former President, you should learn the proper forms of address for EX-presidents.)  Yet against the wishes of the state department and members of congress Carter met with Hamas chief Khaled Meshal.
The U.S. State Department twice advised Carter against meeting Hamas leaders before he left on his Mideast trip earlier this week. More than 50 members of Congress also urged Carter not to meet Meshal, saying it would confer legitimacy on the group behind some 250 homicide bombings that have killed numerous Israelis.

Hamas officials say the meetings have lent their group legitimacy which means JEC is successfully undermining our efforts against Hamas and terrorism. Why? What does he think he is doing?  Well according to him he is laying the groundwork for Israeli-Palestinian peace. I guess memories of his Nobel Prize have lulled him into a sense of adequacy.  No one but Carter will talk to Hamas so how then does he think he will usher in this great dialog? The man is so full of himself it makes me ill.

On a cultural note I did write a Haiku about him for Haiku Friday on my other blog.

13 Things About Dane Bramage
13 Things about Me Beggining with J

I have seen a lot of Thursday Thirteens about descriptive words beginning with the same letter. I decided to do one using the letter J. I don't know why I chose J. But I did.

  1. jannock* This is me to a tee.

  2. jeremiad Some of my posts are this, especially when I am upset about the direction America is headed.

  3. jocose My mood most of the time.

  4. jolterhead Most of the people I deal with daily.

  5. joss** Don't believe in it.

  6. jink I have discovered to my chagrin that I can no longer do this due to size and age.

  7. jiffy The time frame people want things done by me but never for me.

  8. jettatura* I get this from liberals all the time.

  9. jejune How I find most of television especially reality shows

  10. jentacular* I have been avoiding items of this nature which is wrong since they are the most important of the day.

  11. jacobin What I try to expose and combat. The raison d'etre of Dane Bramage.

  12. jejunator* I am one from time to time. For spiritual reasons.

  13. jacent This is me in the morning. Not a morning person

Well in case you haven't guessed it, I used some pretty uncommon and unusual words. Hopfully with my dictionary widget you can double click on the word and the definition pops up in another window. Words denoted with * are not found in that dictionary however. The word joss is but the definition does not apply to me. You can find all the J words and their definitions here.

Testimony

When I imagined myself as the first black man to run for President, I always considered my Christian testimony and the part my pastor would play in it. I could not think of kicking him to the curb or ignoring my association with him. As a fundamental Baptist preacher he is prone to say controversial things from the pulpit. Controversial to the ears of the world but not to God. The world might think it hateful when he preaches on sanctification and separation especially when he says to remain separate from worldly influences. My pastor always preaches the Word. If he talks about political issues, it is from a spiritual point of view and based on scripture, not personal opinion. My political views are shaped by my faith and my faith is shaped by the preaching and teaching of God’s Word and God’s Word is presented by my preacher. It was his ministry that led me to Christ and it was under his ministry that I grew as a Christian. So I cannot conceive of any time or situation where I would distance myself from him or his teachings and comments.

Well I probably won’t ever run for President but Obama is trying hard to. So I wonder about what his testimony is. He obviously embraced his pastor and his teachings at one point. But now he is putting as much distance as he can between himself and Reverend Wright. Why? Does he or doesn’t he believe the man? Is Wright Obama’s spiritual leader or isn’t he? If not then who? Shouldn’t we get to know who is the spiritual guidance of one of America’s potential Presidents?

But if Wright is Obama’s guru then aren’t we within our right to question comments the man has made publicly? Shouldn’t we be aware of what was taught by Wright and received by Obama? Isn’t this part of Barack Obama’s testimony?

Wright is in the news again, making comments against Fox News personalities. He was at a funeral of all places. I think he likes the spotlight and plans to take full advantage of his fifteen minutes. Where does that leave the Obama campaign?

Has your pastor (or other spiritual leader) said controversial things behind the pulpit? If you were running for public office, would you promote your pastor, or distance yourself?

3rd Blogoversary Edition
13 Favorite Thursday Thirteens From Last Year

Sunday marked the third blogoversary of Dane Bramage. Over the past year I participated in 38 (of a possible 52) Thursday Thirteens. That is very significant because it means that instead of new material for this week I can just link back to some of my old T13! The links will open in another window if you click on them. Some of the pre Template change posts may be difficult to read because the text colors chosen looked better against a black background than the current blue one.

  1. #43 13 Bumper Stickers Not your ordinary "My kid blah blah blah" type, but bumper stickers that have meaning like "I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian"

  2. #55 13 TV Theme Songs And you can listen to them too!

  3. #50 13 Tortures for Woman Whom I've Dated Because I'm NOT Bitter I think the title says it all.

Is ZoomClouds Biased Against Hillary?

Take a look at my sidebar. Look at the tag cloud. Notice how big Obama and McCain are. Notice the abscence of the words Hillary and Clinton. Now I rarely mention Obama without mentioning Clinton so why doesn't Clinton show? I even adjusted the filter to force Clinton into the cloud and nothing. Hmmm.

Well after a couple of days "clinton" has shown up in my cloud. I don't see why it would have taken so long.

In Memoriam: Charleton Heston

Charleton Heston has passed away. He was 82. His wife of 64 years was at his side.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

When I think of Charleton Heston all I can think of is "larger than life". He did so many things on screen and off and did them all well. He was a great actor, President of the SAG, President of the NRA, Medal of Freedom recipient and champion of civil rights supporting Dr. Martin Luther King.

Charelton Heston was also a Christian. He had a testimony wherein he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. To me this is especially important. While I never met Charleton in this life, I will get to meet him in the next!

Happy Blogoversary to Me

Wow it is hard to believe that I have been at this blogging thing for 3 years! This past year had a few gaps in it where the real world had overwhelmed me and I didn't blog. But all in all I stuck to it. I have friends who can't hold a job for as long as I have been blogging.

So thank yous are in order. First I want to thank The Lord for health and clarity of mind to be able to put two coherent thoughts together on a page.  Second I would like to thank the real world friends who read and support my blogging. The two of you know who you are.(Maybe 2008 should be the year YOU start a blog). I want to thank my fellow bloggers who stop in and leave words of encouragement. I want to thank my faithful readers. And I want to thank all the fine folks who stop in on Thursdays.

As far as changes go, I have pretty much implemented everything I wanted at the beginning of the year as far as template changes go.  I still plan to uupgrade to Blogger 2.0 version of the template as soon as learn how to write a web service and build a widget.  It may seem that I have cut back on the number of quizzes and memes that I participate in but in actuality I just post them on a different blog.

I do have a domain, danebramage.net which I may  move my blog to. Again it all depends on how much the real world demands my time.

Well I am kind of looking forward to the upcoming year. So if nothing major happens in real life I plan to keep blogging.

Speaking of Race Relations

An interesting thing just happened to me. I walked across the street to the little deli and ordered lunch. They fixed it up for me (although I wonder sometimes how much mayonnaise they would normally put on a sandwich. I ask for light mayo and they still apply a spatula full on a six inch sub). I decided to use my bank card and the lady rang it up and printed the receipt for my signature.

"Just put your John Henry right here" she said.

John Henry? I know he was a steel driving man but I didn't know he was associated with signatures like John Hancock. Maybe white people put their John Hancocks on documents and black people put on their John Henrys.

Now the difference between me and a liberal race baiter is that I found the whole thing interesting and a little amusing. A liberal would have been offended. They might have even sued for damages seeing how they have been treated so differently!

Obama and Clinton Join Forces For Good of Party

Couple to Divorce Current Spouses and Marry Before Democratic Convention

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

While this has been a crazy race for the democratic nomination, no one from either the Obama camp or the Clinton side could have predicted this move. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are engaged to be married.

"No one can deny the power of Jungle fever. I have had feelings for Hill for a long time" Obama said. "But let's not forget the real significance of this move. I promised to unite our party and heal the wounds and I don't think anyone will argue that the Democrats won't be divided after this!"

"I can hardly wait to join with someone as big as Obama. I have a feeling that he will be a bigger President than my soon to be ex-husband" Hillary said to reporters. "I don't think there will be those embarrassing fidelity issues either. And once you go Barack, you never go back. No one can deny his prowess."

Both soon to be ex-spouses said they were okay with the move. The good of the party being more important that individual considerations. Michele Obama says "I've never been prouder of my party! I think Hillary will make a good second First Lady or President however they decide to work that out". Bill Clinton is also excited and plans to be part of the wedding ceremony. "I can't wait to give Hillary away!" exclaimed Bubba.

Married, they will essentially be one candidate and together they hope to stop all the in-fighting and division. No one is sure who will be President and who will be First Spouse or what confusion will ensue if one is President and the other Vice President. All that is known for sure is that the Democrats will be unified
