Because Everybody Is Entitled To My Opinion

"O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, . . . in wrath remember mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2).
"Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" (Psalm 85:6)

Interesting Quote

I fouond this in my inbox this week. It has been one of those things flying round the net so I present it to you.
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
There was some question as to whether the alleged source, a Czech statesman spoke these words. Did someone really say this? Well according to Answers.com:
This quote was translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of 28 April 2010.
So what do you think?

Interesting Quote

The truth is, however, that if you go to South America, you will find a huge number of conversions to Protestant Christianity. If you go to Korea, you will find Christian churches with 100,000 members. If you go to China, you will find 100 million Christians. And if you go to Africa, you'll find that countries whose populations were only five percent Christian 100 years ago are now 50 percent Christian. These trends have not gone unnoticed by historians, who are startled by them and have attempted to explain them away, and they are the empirical basis for my claim that God is doing very well in this world. What's important to understand is that the New Atheism is not a triumphant cry of success, but rather a bitter reaction to the success of religion. -Dinesh D'Souza

13 Insults with Class

I get many things from friends in email. Karl sent me this list of insults, but they aren't your typical "Your Momma wears boxers" type insult. These are a thinking man's insult. Now just let me say that I have no way of knowing whether the people these quotes are attributed to actually said them. So if you know something and I don't then leave a comment and just take these in the spirit they are given, a mean vicious snide spirit!

  1. "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." -- Clarence Darrow

  2. "I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it." -- Groucho Marx

  3. "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." -- Mark Twain

  4. "I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play. Bring a friend...if you have one." -- George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill

  5. "Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second...if there is one." -- Winston Churchill, in response

  6. "I feel so miserable without you; it's almost like having you here." -- Stephen Bishop

  7. "He is a self-made man and worships his creator." -- John Bright

  8. "He has Van Gogh's ear for music." -- Billy Wilder

  9. "He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends." -- Oscar Wilde

  10. "I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial." -- Irvin S. Cobb

  11. "He is not only dull himself; he is the cause of dullness in others." -- Samuel Johnson

  12. "He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts...for support rather than illumination." -- Andrew Lang

  13. "There's nothing wrong with you that reincarnation won't cure." -- Jack E. Leonard

People don't insult each other like they used to. The email had another 15 insults so I will save them for another T13.

13 Bits of Workplace Wisdom

I know this is soooo late. But I got buried at work for a project and we are short handed (looking to hire three new people immediately!) When that happens my home time gets compromised. I am remodeling my living room and I have Spring Program at church and, well you get the idea. I am busy. But I am also blessed! Good 'ole Scott emailed me some list fodder and since this one is work related, I threw it into my handy dandy T13 Template and Voila! So enjoy these 13 pieces of Workplace Wisdom.

  1. The first 90% of project takes 90% of the time, the last 10% takes the other 90% of the time.

  2. If you can't get your work done in the first 24 hours, work nights.

  3. Don't be irreplaceable, if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

  4. After any salary raise, you will have less money at the end of the month than you did before

  5. You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.

  6. Eat one live toad the first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.

  7. If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a fool about it.

  8. Arriving to work early sets an expectation that your less ambitious co-workers will not appreciate.

  9. To err is human, to forgive is not a part of company policy.

  10. Important letters that contain no errors will develop errors in the mail.

  11. If you are good, you will be assigned all the work. If you are really good, you will get out of it.

  12. If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.

  13. The last person that quit or was fired will be blamed for everything that goes wrong.

Thanks again to my buddy Scott for coming through for me at the last minute. Now that you have proven yourself dependable and competent you can never slack off again! (Tidbit #14!)

13 things about Dane Bramage
13 Quotes About Men

This is late I know but things have been crazy. I am still getting over a nasty cold and we are short handed at work. But here it is my Thursday Thirteen. Dave Barry says this about men:
The obvious and fair solution to the housework problem is to let men do the housework for, say, the next six thousand years, to even things up. The trouble is that men, over the years, have developed an inflated notion of the importance of everything they do, so that before long they would turn housework into just as much of a charade as business is now. They would hire secretaries and buy computers and fly off to housework conferences in Bermuda, but they'd never clean anything.
And that is the theme of this weeks Thursday Thirteen. Quotes about men.

  1. Marlene Dietrich The average man is more interested in a woman who is interested in him than he is in a woman with beautiful legs.

  2. Ellen Glasgow Women are one of the Almighty's enigmas to prove to men that He knows more than they do.

  3. Jean Kerr Marrying a man is like buying something you've been admiring for a long time in a shop window. You may love it when you get it home, but it doesn't always go with everything else in the house.

  4. Erma Bombeck What's with you men? Would hair stop growing on your chest if you asked directions somewhere?

  5. Roseanne Barr Men can read maps better than women. 'Cause only the male mind could conceive of one inch equaling a hundred miles.

  6. Natalie Wood The only time a woman really succeeds in changing a man is when he is a baby.

  7. Mignon McLaughlin Women are the right age for just a few years; men, for most of their lives.

  8. Mae West Give a man a free hand and he'll run it all over you.

  9. Farrah Fawcett God made man stronger but not necessarily more intelligent. He gave women intuition and femininity. And, used properly, that combination easily jumbles the brain of any man I've ever met.

  10. Jim Backus Many a man owes his success to his first wife, and his second wife to his success.

  11. Rita Rudner The old theory was "Marry an older man, because they're more mature." But the new theory is: "Men don't mature. Marry a younger one."

  12. Zsa Zsa Gabor I want a man who's kind and understanding. Is that too much to ask of a millionaire?

  13. Chocolate Waters If they can put one man on the moon why can't they put them all there?

Well as you can see, not everyone has a high opinion of the stronger gender. Just one more quote from Anita Wise:
A lot of guys think the larger a woman's breasts are, the less intelligent she is. I don't think it works like that. I think it's the opposite. I think the larger a woman's breasts are, the less intelligent the men become.

13 things about Dane Bramage
13 Quotes About Women

Women... can't live with 'em... can't shoot 'em. At least according to Ivan Turgenev. Some other famous people said some things about the fairer sex. Here are 13 of them.
  1. Kathy Lette Age to women is like Kryptonite to Superman.
  2. Groucho Marx A woman can smell mink through six inches of lead.
  3. Eleanor Roosevelt A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.
  4. W. E. B. Du Bois All womanhood is hampered today because the world on which it is emerging is a world that tries to worship both virgins and mothers and in the end despises motherhood and despoils virgins.
  5. Louis XIV I could sooner reconcile all Europe than two women.
  6. Teresa Heinz Kerry I mention my age because I find people in this country - women, not men, of course - women are so troubled by their age. There's a culture of youth, and it's a phony culture.
  7. Gilda Radner I'd much rather be a woman than a man. Women can cry, they can wear cute clothes, and they are the first to be rescued off of sinking ships.
  8. Will Rogers There's two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither one works.
  9. Bill Vaughan Now that women are jockeys, baseball umpires, atomic scientists, and business executives, maybe someday they can master parallel parking.
  10. Samuel Butler Brigands demand your money or your life; women require both.
  11. Diane Johnson Men are generally more law-abiding than women. Women have the feeling that since they didn't make the rules, the rules have nothing to do with them.
  12. Joseph Conrad Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men.
  13. Agatha Christie Any woman can fool a man if she wants to and if he's in love with her.
There you have 13 different views on women. Interestingly several had to do with age. I don't know why women obsess about age more than men do. But here's an ancient Chinese Proverb The woman who tells her age is either too young to have anything to lose or too old to have anything to gain. Hmmm...

13 Favorite Bible Verses

Get out your Good Book, King James only please. I am going to share 13 of my favorite Bible verses. The Bible is still the most quoted literary work in the world, in history probably. There is a verse for everything. When my ex-girlfriend refused my marriage proposal she quoted Romans 1:13 "Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren". I was crushed and begged her to reconsider and all she would say is "Sir, you're holding up the line. Please pull up to the next window to get your food and quit bothering me." Okay maybe that didn't happen but the point is valid. you can find a verse for every situation.
  1. Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. This is my life's verse. I quit worrying about food and shelter trusting that the Lord would provide what I need. Amazingly after trusting in Christ my stress level decreased dramatically and I no longer have insomnia or stomach problems. Probably because of the next verse;

  2. Psalm 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. I used to lay awake at night with worries, sometimes not sleeping at all. That hasn't happened now in 13 years. I am asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow. Praise God.

  3. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And He didn't do it with a bang, big or otherwise. It amazes me that we live in a world where everything we have is created by some means or other but people think that the universe just happened.

  4. John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Ever meet people who claim to be Christian and tell you how much they love Jesus but they live like heathens? The proof of a person's love for Christ is whether or not they are living a Christian life to the best of their abilities. Jesus Himself said this. Don't tell me how much you love Jesus; show me.

  5. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: No one can earn their way into Heaven. Only by God's unmerited favor can we see the golden streets.

  6. John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. When I got saved Jesus gave me eternal life. It is something I have now. I am 100% sure that when I die, whenever it will happen, I have a home in heaven. I have Jesus' Word on it right here.

  7. The rest of the post is below the fold. Go to the end of the post and click "We want to read more!"
  8. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus said this to Nicodemus and it has become perhaps the most famous Bible quote of all. So simple and yet so very deep at the same time. Praise the Lord!

  9. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. So if I come knocking on your door someday this is why. Jesus gave the Great Commission not only in the book of Mark but in all the Gospels and the book of Acts. It must be important for Him to say it five times.

  10. Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Nobody is perfect. God knows this and says so right here. It's why we need a Saviour.

  11. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Everybody is a sinner. EVERYBODY!

  12. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus died to pay for our sins.

  13. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Salvation is a gift, one we cannot earn but only accept.

  14. Romans 10:13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. And that is how we accept Him. Pray and ask Him to be our Saviour and believe that He is the Son of God and that he rose from the dead. It is really that simple.

Many people think that the Bible is some kind of road map to Heaven and that if you read it and keep the commandments you get to go there. The truth is the last 5 verses I shared with you is all a person needs to understand in order to go to Heaven. The Bible is a blueprint for living to those of us who are going to Heaven. If you have a life's verse or just a favorite leave it in the comments.
